International Organizations

The Organization for Poverty Alleviation and Development (OPAD) is a nonprofit and non-governmental organization that works towards getting rid of poverty. They promote human rights, climate change, and sustainable development. Their website states their objectives as "mitigating the problems presented by poverty; help the poor to be sustainable and self-reliant; promote positive climate change and support international laws protecting humanitarian values across cultures" (2021).

So far as I read through the website, I have discovered that they are into empowering others so that they can help themselves. They speak about youth empowerment especially because our youth are the future. When the youth are empowered they are more likely to find solutions for things that they'll be dealing with in their futures rather than waiting on adults who will not be dealing with the same issues.

I enjoy the fact that they give so many different ways one can help promote positive social change. OPAD allows you to donate, volunteer, and fundraise. They even give various ways on how to donate, wanting to make sure that people can do so in a comfortable fashion for themselves. They don't work just in poverty but also work in areas such as gender equality, climate change, human rights, and education. Many of the different ways that  they are involved can help children living in poverty, however, by granting kids access to resources and help that would help them to move above the poverty line. And bringing it back to the youth empowerment, giving kids access to resources allows them to make the changes they want to see in their communities. It's an organization that wants to raise the quality of life for everyone out there.

  1. Delaney,
I love reading your post. This is an organization that I have never heard of before. Youth empowerment is so important, you are right they are the future and we need to equip them to stand and let their voices be heard. Thank you for introducing me to another organization. I will definitely have to check them out.
